This display at the BAM in Brooklyn is just one example. Although I will always have love for The Bay, I’m so proud to call New York home. And after seeing the countless selfless displays of people who rallied to help after the explosions went off in Boston (even runners who had just completed the race ran back to help) and the countless heroic stories I’ve heard from 9/11 since moving here, I’m proud to call America home.

Our hearts our with Boston. Thank you to the The Illuminator for the beautiful display and message on our behalf.

With the help of Leo Burnett Milan, Vivienne Westwood addressed the issue directly by having 1 in 3 of her mannequins in her storefront with visible signs of physical abuse.

I have a long history working with Domestic Violence agencies so this is an issue that I’m very close to and am very sensitive to it’s difficult nature. So it’s incredible to see such a creative approach to addressing such a tough  issue, especially in a country with a reputation of a very strong macho culture.

It captures eyeballs where they already are. Great work and hopefully this will become a larger execution across more window fronts to drive awareness.

After a satisfying brunch at Hope & Anchor, we strolled down Van Brunt Street to Chelsea Garden Center.  An indoor tree, vine looking thing, aloe plant and a massive bag of soil later, our apartment is getting some much welcomed oxygen champions.

Both places were friendly and helpful. Red Hook is so chill, and it’s great to see it busy, thriving and back on it’s feet after Sandy. You should have seen the crowd at Fairway.

The letters were a snapshot of my life at that moment with a mixture of talking to my future self. My teachers were kind enough to remember to send them years later as I forgot it ever happened.

I told him about how awesomely weird and uncomfortable the experience was after I received the letters 5 years after writing them. It was a mixture of surprise, happiness, nostalgia and cringe worthy thinking.

Throwback App, is built off this same premise. Live in the now, send it to yourself and/or friends anywhere from 1 month to 5 years from that moment, and look back later. There was something magical with a not so ‘instant’ and always ‘on’ life. It allows our memories to be memories than recounts of 30 seconds ago.

As such, this is the anti-social media photo app. Throw back is not about instaanything, and can only be pushed to the people you choose, even if it’s just yourself.

It’s developed off a wonderful insight and you can download it now for free via the app store.

Over the course of three years, there were countless people who poured their hearts into this effort to get it off the ground. Even when we hit roadblocks, we all charged right through them and hopefully  helped give this issue just another stage to shine a light on all that these families go through, especially when it was shortlisted for an Integrated + Titanium Lion at Cannes.

The families, clients, NPOs and teams at Hope Technology School, Bodega and GSP really came together in an effort that I only wish all people in our industry could witness from the inside, as it was a true testament of how the creative and technological communities and our client, HP, could partner with individuals and organizations outside of our bubble for the greater good.

Everyone from developers, teachers, parents, students, filmmakers and us ad folks rallied, and I’ll never forget how powerful a united front of different groups can accomplish anything when threaded by a common cause.

My hearts and warmest wishes to all the families and children with autism. The entire Hacking Autism effort is for all of you.

Also big hats off to Autism Speaks who will be carrying the Hacking Autism torch by continuing to drive the exploration of how technology can continue to help give people with autism a voice.
